Welcome note

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is meanwhile a pleasant tradition to invite you to our upcoming Intermetallics 2023 Conference. It will be the sixth meeting in this successfully established series of conferences, which this time is scheduled from 2nd till 6th October 2023.

Following our traditional scheme this conference will focus on materials based on intermetallic phases (intermetallics) to be envisaged for structural as well as functional applications. With a beneficial combination of high strength, low density and good corrosion resistance, they are specifically suited for applications at high temperatures and in severe environments. As some intermetallic phases show unique physical properties, they are also of interest for various functional applications. In addition, their possible appearance, thermodynamic stability, and role as strengthening phases in, e.g., superalloys, high entropy alloys, and any kind of compositionally complex alloys are important scientific issues, which are also in the focus of this conference.

The local organisers welcome Martin Schloffer from MTU Aero Engines in their team while the choice of members of the international advisory board remains virtually unchanged compared to previous conferences, thus providing not only representation of all relevant topics but also a good balance between research and application. Following the successful tradition of the last Intermetallics conference, the Intermetallics 2023 will be held as a single-session conference. A high-profile poster session will be rounding off the conference. Furthermore, after the last fruitful educational seminar, a “School on Thermodynamics of Intermetallics” which is specifically devoted to young researchers up to the PhD level will precede the conference.

Even though we cannot foresee how the worldwide situation of the COVID-19 pandemic will be in October 2023, we are confident that the conference will again take place at the Educational Center Kloster Banz near Bamberg, Germany. The cloister is situated in a remote place above the valley of the river Main. As a well-known educational centre, it is an ideal place for conferences with its good infrastructure and relaxing atmosphere. In addition, being situated in the central part of Germany, it is easily accessible from Nuremberg, Munich and Frankfurt airports.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at Kloster Banz,
Your Intermetallics 2023 Conference Team
