Welcome to
Intermetallics 2027
International Conference
from 27 - 30 September 2027
at the Educational Center Kloster Banz

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is a pleasant tradition to invite you to our upcoming Intermetallics 2027 Conference. It will be the eighth meeting in this successful series of conferences, which this time is scheduled from 27th until 30th September 2027.
Intermetallic compounds (intermetallics) and materials containing large fractions of intermetallic phases show a beneficial combination of high strength, low density, and good environmental resistance. Thus, they are specifically suited for structural application at high temperatures and in extreme environments. Apart from structural engineering application, many functional materials like shape memory alloys, high-performance magnets or thermoelectric materials gain their unique functionality from intermetallic phases.
The conference focuses on materials based on intermetallic and compositionally complex phases, as well as the mechanisms how they affect properties of single and multi-phase materials. Contributions on functional intermetallics are highly welcome, e.g. on topics like hydrogen storage, magnetic properties, electric conductivity, catalytic activity, and coatings. Discussions on the improvement of intermetallics for structural applications will cover topics such as: strength and ductility, fatigue, wear, high-temperature creep, and high-temperature corrosion. To use intermetallics for structural and functional applications also includes the important aspects of processing and sustainability, and modelling of intermetallics (CALPHAD, machine learning, first-principles and data-driven approaches). Further intermetallics-related topics of this conference are: thermodynamic stability and kinetics of phase transformations and reactions, intermetallics as strengthening phases, high entropy alloys, and any kind of compositionally complex alloys.

The local organisers and the members of the international advisory board provide not only a representation of the relevant topics but also a good balance between research and application. Following the successful tradition of the last Intermetallics conferences, the Intermetallics 2027 will be held as a single-session conference. A high-profile poster session will be rounding off the conference. Furthermore, after the last fruitful educational seminars, this time an “Beyond dislocations: Alternative modes of deformation” seminar will be offered which is specifically devoted to young researchers. While graduate and doctoral students are given priority during registration, all participants are welcome. The conference will again take place at the Educational Center Kloster Banz near Bamberg, Germany. The cloister is situated in a remote place above the valley of the river Main. As a well-known educational centre, it is an ideal place for conferences with its good infrastructure and relaxing atmosphere. In addition, being situated in the central part of Germany, it is easily accessible from Nuremberg, Munich and Frankfurt airports.
We are looking forward to welcoming you at Kloster Banz,
Your Intermetallics 2027 Conference Team
